Fix someone else's computer without remote desktop
Helping a customer, a colleague or your parents usually means a remote desktop session and a lot of guided clicking. With Octling you send a link, they run one command, and the AI fixes the problem from your chat while you watch.
“The printer shows offline. Check the spooler and the network settings and fix it”
“Install the latest Zoom and remove the old version”
How it works
- In an Octling chat, choose their operating system and copy the instructions link (or the one-line command if they are comfortable with a terminal).
- Send it by email or chat. The page shows them, step by step, how to open Command Prompt, PowerShell or Terminal and paste the command. The link is valid for ten minutes and works for one computer.
- Their computer appears in your chat. Describe the problem, for example “Chrome keeps crashing, find out why and fix it”, and the AI investigates and works on their machine.
- When you are done, they close the window and the connection ends.
Good fits
Software installs and updates on a customer's PC, with the exact commands kept for your records.
“My computer is slow / out of space”: find what is using the disk or CPU and clean it up.
Network and printer problems: check adapters, DNS, proxy settings and spooler services.
Family tech support without walking someone through menus over the phone.
For teams that do this every day
Organization accounts add groups, device policies and seat-based billing, and admins can review sessions and audit records. For machines you look after long-term, a deployment pack installs a resident client that starts on boot and reconnects by itself.
Questions
- Does the other person need to install anything or create an account?
- No account. They open the link you send, copy one command and run it in Command Prompt, PowerShell or Terminal. The page walks them through it step by step.
- Do they need administrator rights?
- No. The temporary connection runs as their normal user. It stays connected while the window is open; closing the window disconnects it.
- How long is the link valid?
- Ten minutes, for one computer. If it expires, generate a new one; machines that are already connected are not affected.
- Can I see what the AI did on their computer?
- Yes. Every command and its output is shown in your chat and kept in the audit log. Commands that match your approval rules wait for you to confirm, and high-risk commands are blocked.
- Is it a replacement for remote desktop?
- For most fixes, yes: installing software, clearing space, checking network settings, removing startup programs or reading logs happen faster as commands than by clicking through someone else's screen. For tasks that only work in a graphical app, remote desktop is still the better tool.
